Virgil Abloh’s highly anticipated Nike partnership is being championed as one of the fastest collaborations the brand has ever produced: 10 shoes in 10 months from inception to release. Abloh first visited Nike headquarters to begin work on this project back in October 2016. One of his earliest tasks was to re-examine Swoosh classics like the Air Jordan 1, Blazer Mid, Air Max 97 and, where we land at present time, the Air Max 90.
“Most of the creative decisions were made in the first three hours,” Abloh recalls, “while actual design and iteration took two to three days.” The Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 was a paramount ideation first cut and sewn then reconstructed, a triumphant victim of Abloh’s fast-paced work process that made an ideal companion to the rapid Nike Direct timeline.
The Off-White x Nike Air Max 90 will be available globally this November, while those in New York City, London, Milan and Paris, will see limited pairs available during fashion week in each respective city throughout the month of September.
