As Kobe Bryant‘s signature series remains ongoing after his retirement, as of late, thoughts have moved beyond the current success of the Kobe A.D. and the triumphant possibilities of Kobe B.C. Removed from overt biblical references, simply put — the people want retros.
There was, of course, the 2013-14 “Prelude” pack and 2016’s “Fade to Black” collection, respectively. Both can be credited as the infancy of Nike Kobe retros and what those shoes could look like. Yet, at the time, they represented more of a ceremonious ode to Kobe as opposed to jump starting retro releases.
Today, though, still riding high off his Eagles Super Bowl 52 victory, Bryant teased what is excitedly a Nike Zoom Kobe 1 retro.
“We’re always looking to build on things that we’ve done in the past to try to improve them,” Bryant stated in an image posted to his Instagram Stories. In his hands, the Zoom Kobe 1 — easily recognized through its defined outsole and a sliver of the mid. No pack, no collection, no theme, this Nike Zoom Kobe 1 will be the first true Kobe retro. The first of many.
Release details for the shoe are unknown at this time. But you can expect more updates on this story very, very soon.
