Today, February 6, 2018, marks the 30th anniversary of Michael Jordan’s famous free throw line leap in the 1988 NBA Slam Dunk Contest. A moment frozen in time and revered as one of the most iconic dunks in league history, will be commemorated next week with the release of the Air Jordan 3 “Free Throw Line” edition.

The exact silhouette MJ wore during that competition, is updated with a translucent outsole fitted with a red stripe that identifies when he took off from the line on that faithful day 30 years ago. More commemorative updates include “147” written behind the tongue — Jordan’s cumulative score during that years dunk contest. “3:51” appears on the inner most part of the heel tab, signifying the time on the shot-clock when Mike took flight.

The Air Jordan 3 “Free Throw Line” will release on February 14 at 10am EST via Nike SNKRS. Premium retailers will release the shoe on the same day, although at varying times and release strategy. Some are even rumored to release the shoe at 3:51pm in honor of the shot-clock. Start making plans now to grab your pair next week.
