Last night, we offered a preview of a South Korea inspired Air Jordan 3. Today, more details regarding the shoe’s origins are revealed, including a release date in the very near future.
A special project from Nike’s Innovation Kitchen designed by Tinker Hatfield and Dan Sunwoo, the Air Jordan 3 “Seoul” celebrates the shoe’s 30th anniversary while equally honoring Seoul’s hosting of summer games.
“I grew up a sneakerhead in Seoul and I wanted to create a shoe that pays homage to the creative energy of the city,” states Sunwoo. “Now is the perfect time, building on the momentum of the winter games and the love Korean consumers have for Jordan Brand.”
Holistically driven by the Taegukgi (Korean flag), the white, red and blue upper represent peace and purity (as does the flag). Further homage to Seoul is noted through symbolism on the left inner tongue, while the 1988 summer games motto – representative of harmony and progress – is expressed on the right inner tongue. Nike Air works the heel to commemorate the shoe’s 30th anniversary.
The Air Jordan 3 “Seoul” will release on March 10 at nike.com.kr and at the Jordan Hongdae store.
