Hybrid sneakers aren’t exactly a science. Sometimes they work and other times they don’t. Nike, for the better part of the last two years, has grown extremely proficient at melding iconic styles together to evoke newness. They’ve come to understand what sneakers to join and how exactly to pair them together.
The Nike Air Max 90/1 is about as subtle a hybrid as you’ll see. Not nearly as overt as, say, the Air VaporMax Plus, this matrimony pits an Air Max 1 upper above Air Max 90 tooling with relative ease. There’s very little that feels contrived here; someone partial to either shoe could still appreciate this one as they feel right at home in leather construction alongside OG blocking.
Initial reports pinned the Nike Air Max 90/1 “University Red” for a fall 2018 release. However, it appears the shoe may drop before climate returns to a chill. Stay tuned for more on this impending release.
