“Form follows function” has long been the golden rule of design. The Reebok ZigTech has proven that the policy applies to sneaker, too. The wave-inspired sole was met by a lot of readers wondering what the story behind the look was. Today, Reebok officially unveiled the technology with an explanation for the styling. ?Traditional energy return is focused only on the vertical impact of the heel strike,? said Reebok?s Head of Advanced Innovation, Bill McInnis, in a press release. ?In contrast, ZigTech is designed to transfer energy horizontally along the zigs so the athlete gets that energy back in the forefoot.? Clearly, the ZigTech is designed for performance more than casual wear. Reebok claims the technology results in 20% less wear and tear on leg muscles like the shins and hamstrings. While the style may have to grow on you over time, it sounds like a lot of time and thought was put into the technology behind it. The first pairs go on sale March 11th for $100. |
