When style personalities speak of normcore, dad vibes and all the like, with relation to sneakers, they often fail to discuss the cultural relevancy of Nike’s Air Max 94. A wildly simplistic Air Max model originally released 24 years ago, both failed to live up to the success of the Air Max 93 and was commercially blown out of the water by the Air Max 95.
Greatness, however, isn’t always seen through dominating sales and multiple retro runs — the Air Max 94 is proof of said narrative. With no high-end tech to speak of, no full-length Air and a relatively simple design that largely mimics the underwhelming Nike Air Burst, the Air Max 94 still resonated with Swoosh purists. Moreover, they should land with those who’ve come to love new styles like the Nike M2K Tekno and other of a similar volition.
Aside from a small release in Europe several years ago, this normcore gem has been dormant for a long while. Yet seemingly out of nowhere, a Wolf Grey/Bright Crimson pair just popped up at Finishline with a second Black/Neon colorway in set to release soon.
