When Serena Williams takes the court next week in Flushing Meadows, New York, for the 50th annual US Open, the Compton native will be wearing her new “Queen” collection from head-to-toe. Designed by Virgil Abloh for NikeCourt, the offering is more than just the toast of sneaker culture, it’s the talk of the fashion world as well.
Abloh, who affectionately referred to Serena as the “muse of a generation” when describing what inspired his approach to the collection and its design language, has always said he got into fashion for the people and not necessarily the clothes. That mantra holds true with “Queen,” serving as a ready-to-wear collection for both on and off the court.
The footwear component champions the NikeCourt Flare 2, Blazer Mid and Air Max 97. All enriched with Abloh’s signature aesthetics that made “The Ten” the biggest thing in sneakers over the past two years, a deconstructed theme backs the vibrant collection which is finished with lime green zip ties.
The OFF WHITE x NikeCourt “Queen” Collection release will begin with the Nike Air Max 97 dropping exclusively in New York City. Release details for the Blazers and Flare 2 PE have not yet been revealed.
Update 10/25: Serena Williams’ Off White x Nike Blazer has not yet been confirmed in the US but released at Canadian retailer SSENSE today. Stay tuned for Stateside launch details.
