After opening Union Tokyo earlier this year, marking the company’s first new store in 27 years, Chris Gibbs continues to expand his tightly run operation with a newly formed Jordan Brand partnership. And while details of this budding collaboration are unknown at present time, what may have started back in 2017 as a ComplexCon exclusive has seemingly blossomed into an Air Jordan 1 joint release.
Much remains a mystery regarding the assumed collaboration. Yet two pairs of quasi-deconstructed Air Jordan 1s are revealed today in “Black Toe” and “Storm Blue” like themes with exposed stitching that many will immediately link to Virgil Abloh’s pairs.
A two-tone tongue with an exposed collar explores even further nuance. That, alongside an overarching vintage aesthetic, is palpable in its ability to see beyond the surface of quite possibly the greatest sneaker ever.
Additional details on the Union x Air Jordan 1 will certainly surface soon. Stay tuned for more.
Update 10/23: Union recently revealed its Air Jordan 1 collaboration at a pop-up booth at Los Angeles’ Rose Bowl Flea. A hidden camera caught suspicious onlookers checking out “real” vintage Jordan footwear and apparel. Most were fooled and assumed the collab was fake, including Round Two’s Sean Wotherspoon (although he could have been in on the joke). Check out the video below and stay tuned for release details.
