There are few sneakers culturally that rival the importance of Nike’s Tailwind runner. First introduced in 1978 although largely recognized for its movement in the year that would follow, this foundational Nike relic returned as a retro earlier this year. Now, another original colorway is set to release just before the close of 2018.

As a companion piece to the aforementioned Vast Grey/Photo Blue OG that released in October, Nike is set to re-release the “Royal Blue” iteration on December 20. A straightforward aesthetic that pairs a monotone base with pristine white branding, it’s a look that represents the earliest moments of the world’s most successful sportswear company. And, too, the basis for what much of today’s retro-fitted sneakers adhere by.

Although you’ll still find the Vast Grey/Photo Blue pair on sneaker shelves around the country (and beyond), those lingering pairs aren’t representative of the importance of this shoe; it’s more a reflection of current culture and its tendency to lean towards what’s new, not necessarily what inspired new.
