Since 2015, the adidas Ultra Boost has been without a doubt the brand’s most important and successful sneaker. A performance gem that continues to thrive while equally coveted as an everyday wear for style and comfort, the brand’s best-selling sneaker for the last four years is finally getting a proper sequel.

Although there are now four iterations of the Ultra Boost — and that’s not including the Uncaged and Laceless iterations — none of them have truly deviated from the first. A new Primeknit pattern or without its signature TPU cage, sure, yet all other features largely remained the same.

Adidas today announces the all-new redesigned Ultra Boost 2019 — a monumental shift from the Ultra Boost 1.0 and, the shoe’s direct predecessor, the Ultra Boost 4.0.

“In creating the adidas Ultraboost 19, we tore up the rule book. We challenged the status quo of what a running shoe should be and how it should be created,” said Sam Handy, adidas Running Vice President of Design. “We enlisted runners from all over our network to be a part of this process, with one goal in mind – to create the most responsive, performance-driven version of the adidas Ultraboost possible. On this journey, we literally tore apart the old model and discovered new testing, manufacturing and coloring methods to really challenge ourselves to reach our ambition.”

Working directly with runners, adidas quickly found that athletes wanted a much simpler running silhouette. To do that, the brand completely deconstructed the original Ultra Boost and reconstructed its 17 pieces with an emphasis on four key points — optimized Boost, Torsion spring, Primeknit 360 and updated 3D heel framing.

Moving from 17 pieces to just four foundational components, while the adidas Ultra Boost 2019 doesn’t appear aesthetically lesser, its build is undeniably simplistic. Its refined Primeknit upper and optimized TPU cage are re-imagined to further the importance of functional running specifications. There’s also 20 percent more Boost in the midsole compared to the original Ultra Boost.

In anticipation of the Ultra Boost 2019 release adidas has launched its “Reboot Running” campaign. Shifting into motion with a trailer that boasts prominent LA and NY adidas Runners, Adam Francique, Kwasi Kessie, Shiara Robison, Tia Hrubala and Bayano Kamani, this widescale campaign upholds running culture and the creativity that ‘new running’ has helped birth.

The adidas Ultra Boost 2019 will debut in a limited-release “Laser Red” colorway on December 15. More limited-edition drops will follow in the lead-up to the global launch on February 21, 2019.
