While Yohji Yamamoto’s avant-garde adidas Y-3 label is largely based on futuristic aesthetics that clash against modern contemporary sensibility, some of what he does is, in fact, inspired by the past. That rings true for his budding Super Takusan silhouette which pulls from the classic adidas Superstar.
Taking the Run DMC favorite from its iconic rubber shell toe, Yamamoto cocoons the elder design cue with eccentric notes rounded by technical canvas and overlaying leather trim. Creeping up from the midsole are uneven panels that almost look like unfinished paint strokes, layering over the base with unique intricacy.
