While Nike celebrated many victories both public and private in 2018, among the most impactful was their re-signing of Colin Kaepernick and his subsequent presence as part of their 30th anniversary Just Do It campaign. Looking back to 2017, similar wins surrounded LeBron James and his lead in the punching Nike Equality series.
Now, to the earliest moments of 2019 which lean sharply into Black History Month, Nike’s Equality series is again on the rise with the usual suspects and silhouettes in tow. Carmelo Anthony, an outspoken NBA star of 16 seasons, last year saw his brand logo perched atop a black and white Air Jordan 1 Equality. Next week, Anthony will again be a figure in this fight although instead with the Air Jordan 1 Mid as a canvas.
With Melo’s logo at the centermost point of the tongue, the black and white Air Jordan 1 Mid is aesthetically crowned by Equality at the heel in Egyptian styled font. Characteristics of that font are also seen throughout the patterned Swoosh, which encapsulates varying shapes, lines and themes.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid ‘Equality” 2019 is set to release on January 15 at select retailers.
