In the earliest moments of the PUMA Basketball resurgence, the brand made it clear that they wouldn’t shy away from uneasy, politicized subject matter. In particular, those related to social justice and equality.
Today PUMA announces a new release alongside longtime partner Meek Mill leaning sharply into his bout for prison reform.
Utilizing the Clyde Court as a canvas to present its penetrating message, PUMA uses this release to continue to honor Olympian Tommie Smith for his powerful and timely stance during the 1968 Games alongside John Carlos and Peter Norman. The shoe not only speaks to Smith’s black excellence but stands as a poignant piece of assertive art representative of the newly established Reform Alliance organization.
The company is, of course, backed by Meek Mill. Others with a role in the company include PUMA Basketball Creative Director, Jay Z, and New England Patriots Owner, Robert Kraft.
The black-based Clyde Court was debuted on-court by DeMarcus Cousins last night. Later this weekend, they’ll also be worn by DeAndre Ayton. All sales from the shoe will be donated in full to the Reform Alliance. Moreover, PUMA has pledged to donate $5,000 in the name of any NBA player who wears the shoe on-court.
Look for the Meek Mill x PUMA Clyde Court #Reform on February 1 for $120. The shoe is available for pre-order now at puma.com.
