Black History Month, now at its midpoint, continues to bear fruit in the form of black excellence with Union’s Chris Gibbs as its latest vessel. With his upcoming collaborative release alongside Vans, Gibbs finds truth in a time-honored African-inspired pattern that he’s been using at his shop for years.
Kente cloth, a traditional African print which often times outfits garments of all shapes, Gibbs some time ago created his own variation dubbed the “Union Kente Cloth.” Many times seen on Union shop bags, stickers, packing tape and more, that very same print finds commonality with this budding Vans collection that includes the Old Skool, Slip-On and Authentic.
Both an ode to Black History Month and the current black history that resides in black-owned shops like Union year-round, expect this collaborative release on February 16 online.
