Nike can almost exclusively be credited for the “multicolor” craze in sneakers. They first introduced the theme in 2012, working in tandem with its Nike Flyknit Racer.

A rainbow array of shades spread through lightweight Flyknit construction; the stage had been set for a sneaker trend that would succeed relentlessly for the next seven years.

Of course, all other brands have now taken to the theme as well. Vans today brightens it Sk8-Hi with paneled suede colored in vibrant pastels that contrast and accent at each turn. This very distinct take on multicolor is uniquely Vans, as the shades they use are much lighter and on-trend for spring.
