Although there’s a wide gap between the Air Jordan 1 High and the Low, both styles have taken a similar journey since arriving in 1985. The proper iteration is largely the more popular of the two and stands as the most coveted shoe in sneakers.
So while there’s really no comparison, the Air Jordan 1 Low — without much pressure to succeed — has still done exceptionally well as an offshoot.
For summer 2019, the shoe returns with skater roots at its center. The Air Jordan 1, while clearly crafted for the greatest basketball player of all time, has always doubled as a stellar skate option.
Jordan Brand takes that functional and aesthetic duality further with this budding 1 Low which denotes a widened frame in direct reference to skaters of the Nike SB lineage.
While Nike Air doesn’t appear at the tongue, traditional aspects of the Jordan 1 are very present. The famed Wings logo marks the heel and while popular variations in years past were Swooshless, that foundational principle is honored here.
Accompanying a “Black Toe” edition which leads a trifecta of styles is a White/Gym Yellow-Hyper Pink pair and another in University Gold/Black. All three are expected to drop this spring.
Update 3/28: Alongside the Nike SB x Air Jordan 1, Jordan Brand, on April 1, will release a four-piece set of Air Jordan 1 Low. Headlined by a “Black Toe” colorway, take a closer look at the set below and expect the drop at select Nike retailers.
