Sustainability in sneakers remains an emerging trend now removed from the exclusivity of the world’s largest brands with unlimited resources. It’s clear now that this responsibility expands beyond just Nike, adidas and other major sporting companies. Creativity and innovation related to sneaker sustainability can and should exist with emerging companies, too.
Budding company ScatLabs recently debuted a sneaker sole made from 90% recycled materials. Manufactured in Portugal, the sole utilizes approximately 75% recycled and reclaimed rubber material — rubber and other debris from the manufacturing process — with a 25% new rubber mix. And while the shoe’s upper isn’t seen nor produced at this time, it’s said to take a page from Parley’s book by using recycled ocean plastic.
Yet even before that process begins, the most noteworthy visual here is the cake-inspired sole unit. A bit of a play on cake being good for the soul.
ScatLabs will be crowdfunding its business plans with a Go Fund Me soon. For more, visit here.
