Virgil Abloh hopped on Twitter on April 7 to get a consensus of what sneakerheads wanted from any upcoming OFF-WHTE x Nike drops. Twitter fingers moved faster than SNKRS fingers as Abloh’s mentions were quickly flooded.

 

Right off the bat, someone asked about a potential Nike Virgil/Nike Abloh. The Chicago native communicated that something similar to a signature shoe is in the works as he simultaneously juggles redesigning models from Nike’s historic vault. On that same note, it appears that Abloh is going on a nostalgic wave for the next OFF-WHITE x Nike batch as he alludes to usage of older, lesser known silhouettes.

Abloh would go on to quote Tweet some of the shoes he wore back in the day as well as feeling a handful of pairs. We don’t want to spoil anything, so take a look at what he had to say himself below.

Nike Velo

The Nike Velo was a member of the Swoosh’s initial and short lived cycling campaign from back in the day. Suede and mesh would come together on a performance engineered outsole made just for cycling.

Nike Air Digs Low

The Nike Air Digs Low was a proud member of Nike’s volleyball line. If you look closely, the pair strikes a similarity to the Nik Air Flight 89. Food for thought.

Nike Air Max Speed Turf

The classic Speed Turf. The shoe, although not a signature shoe, was heavily worn by Dan Marino. It would definitely be interesting to see how Abloh works his magic on these.

Nike Air NDESTRUKT 1995

The Nike Air NDESTRUKT, not to be confused with Dennis Rodman’s Air Shake NDESTRUKT, was engineered for outdoor use. The pair would hold a heavy influence on Rodman’s eventual footwear of choice under the Swoosh.

Nike Air Rift

Was it a slide? Was it a shoe? Was it a sandal? The answer is yes. The Nike Air Rift provided comfortability and breathability. In addition to that, the Air Rift was easy to use (pre-FlyEase) and featured a durable midsole and rigid outsole for everyday wear.

Nike Aqua Sock

The Nike Aqua Sock was a vibrant adaptation of a swim shoe that you could get wet while simultaneously having the support and structure of a regular sneaker. Ahead of its time for sure. Take a look at the vintage ad below for a good chuckle.
