Sole Purpose, a charitable organization that provides new and gently used sneakers and socks to the homeless in New York City, is hosting Making Spirits Bright; a holiday sneaker donation event giving away 500 pair of sneakers and 1,000 pairs of socks to several homeless shelters located in the Bronx and Manhattan.

Sole Purpose was founded by high school students Ross Brodsky and Alex Goldenberg after witnessing an act of kindness by a jogger who took off his sneakers and gave them to a homeless man during his run. Since that moment, the students have given away more than 1,300 pairs of shoes and nearly 7,000 pairs of socks, with a goal of donating 2,000 pairs of shoes and 10,000 pairs of socks by December 31, 2020.

During these unprecedented times it is even more important to give back during the holiday season,” said Brodsky.

“Ensuring that every New Yorker has a pair of shoes and socks to take a step in the right direction is why we started Sole Purpose. Giving back is what we do,” adds Goldenberg
