It seems like even before LeBron James was a global sports phenomenon, he made it clear that he wanted to be the wealthiest athlete of all time. An ambitious goal for someone even of James’ standing, but with new reports from ESPN‘s Darren Rovell today, he’s well on his way if he just tweets a few times more a day.

Aside from his NBA salary, Nike deal and a host of other endorsements, LeBron also gets paid handsomely to tweet. According to Opendorse – a company that deals in strategic planning and monetizing digital and social media campaigns for athletes – a tweet from James these days is worth $140,000. And if you’re doing the math in your head, yes, that’s approximately $1,000 per character.

James, who has 23.2 million followers on Twitter, has the highest value of any athlete sponsored tweet. Opendorse CEO Blake Lawrence said that most athletes get around $1,000 to $2,000 for a sponsored tweet. Those that follow James in social currency, both literally and figuratively, are Kevin Durant ($66,553), Kobe Bryant ($42,389), Floyd Mayweather ($34,924) and Dwight Howard ($34,290).
