adidas Basketball is stepping up big for Homecoming season with the Crazy 8 Low “HBCU” collection, paying tribute to the rich culture of five historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Just in time for the 2024 Homecoming celebrations, the collection brings fresh energy to the adidas Crazy 8 silhouette — a sneaker deeply rooted in basketball history and once worn by a legend.

The Crazy 8 originally made waves in the late ’90s as Kobe Bryant‘s first signature shoe with adidas. Back then, it was known as the KB8 and was designed to match the young star’s bold, explosive playing style. Its aggressive midsole, advanced cushioning, and unique design instantly became a favorite on and off the court, cementing its place in sneaker culture. Fast forward to today, the Crazy 8 remains a staple in adidas’ basketball lineup, now reimagined in a low-top form for this special HBCU collection.

The adidas Crazy 8 Low “HBCU” collection highlights Alabama State, Alcorn State, Grambling State, Prairie View A&M, and Arkansas Pine Bluff — each school receiving a custom colorway that celebrates its legacy. From bold color blocking to intricate patterns and logos, the designs are inspired by the traditions and pivotal moments in the histories of these schools.

The adidas Crazy 8 Low “HBCU” collection releases on October 1, 2024, via adidas.com and select retailers.
