Both paintings represent the perseverance and determination of Derrick as a reminder to never give up. Rose’s warrior spirit is exemplified by the camo backdrop, also representing the self discipline required to reach one’s goal. Conversely, the empty gold and silver spaces represent the time needed to rest and get right, in symbolically distressed fashion.
