In celebration of Black History Month, adidas is telling the stories that matter and need to be told. Expressed through sneakers and apparel, the three stripes uses the Stan Smith to tell the tale of the great Arthur Ashe.
The first African-American male to win a Grand Slam title, Ashe doubled as a civil rights activist, using his sporting platform to evoke change for the mistreated and disenfranchised. In 1975 he won Wimbledon, which serves as the number of Arthur Ashe x adidas Stan Smith pairs in production. His face appears at the tongue in place of another tennis legend, Stan Smith, over this simplistic white and black palette.
Give the shoe a closer look below and stay tuned for a release in late February. The apparel collection is available now at adidas.com.
