Innovation and the stories that support are not only foundational principles for great sneakers, but critical for pushing forward the culture they inhabit. Adidas today leans generously on both with the introduction of its first performance running shoe produced with Parley ocean plastic — the adidas Speedfactory AM4LA.
Produced at adidas’ digitally automated Speedfactory facility, the ecologically conscious shoe is masterfully crafted from ocean waste in both a modern and sustainable effort that has helped push the brand past its counterparts where eco-innovation is concerned.
The AM4LA features a 100% recycled upper that contains Parley Ocean Plastic yarns, with each pair representing 11 plastic bottles that would otherwise litter our water supply. Not to mention effectively poison mother nature. A revelatory Primeknit fabrication is produced to ensure the shoe is ecologically principled yet also acts as a performance enhancement through its remarkable fit that keeps runners feet cool and dry with premium ventilation.
Full-length Boost cushioning is also in place alongside the innovative floating Torsion bar for heightened mobility. Ben Herath, adidas VP for Running Design, champions both as tools to help deliver an incredible running experience. “The AM4LA shoe demonstrates the potential and flexibility of adidas SPEEDFACTORY to evolve and integrate new materials and technology that deliver progress towards solutions to current and new challenges.”
To celebrate the launch of the AM4LA, adidas is opening up a SPEEDFACTORY Lab Experience in Santa Monica, California. Guests will have the opportunity to be the first to receive custom, private footscan data to learn understand their running pattern, get shareable content tied to the AM4LA, and test run with the shoe through various interactive experiences.
The adidas Speedfactory AM4LA will be made available for purchase on May 25. Pairs will be on sale at adidas Santa Monica located at 1337A 3rd Street Promenade and select Consortium retailers for $200 USD. A wider release will follow on June 2 at adidas.com.
