The very-first adidas SpeedFactory in Ansbach, Germany has won the 2018 German Innovation Prize in the coveted Large Enterprises category.
A concept that was first announced back in 2015 and subsequently put into action in Ansbach in 2016 stands as the future of footwear manufacturing. The automated production facility based largely in robotics can produce sneakers faster and more efficiently than past manufacturing cycles. The award honors the factory for its innovation and networked production.
The SpeedFactory is already helping adidas streamline its production processes and gain leverage on their competitors. They’ve already produced the AM4LDN, AM4Paris and the AM4747, which released during NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
Next up for the adidas SpeedFactory is a one-of-a-kind pop-up shop at Brooklyn Bridge Park where they’ll manufacture the AM4NYC (adidas Made for NYC) sneaker. This marks the third in a City Series of individually designed and manufactured shoes. Adidas is set to release pairs in six key cities around the world.
The immersive pop-up experience will allow fans to take an inside look at the future of digital footwear innovation. The pop-up will take place on Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27 from 9am to 9pm ET.
