Inspired by the unjust treatment of the gay and lesbian community in the 1960’s, adidas shows support for the community at-large with an admirable new release. Featuring both the Stan Smith and Superstar, adidas looks to the unfortunate past to celebrate the liberation of current times.
Homophobia ran ramped in New York City in 1965. This injustice forcefully evoked the first picket for equal rights from members of the gay and lesbian community in that same year. Moreover, in 1969, riots broke out in a well known gay and lesbian community after police unjustly raided the Stone Wall Inn. During those unfortunate times, adidas released the Stan Smith (1965) and Superstar (1969). In support of equal rights, the brand is set to release the adidas “Pride” Pack – highlighting both silhouettes redesigned with those aforementioned struggles and triumphant moments in mind.
Crafted in a bold paint splatter aesthetic, a rainbow undertone is noted through the pack in honor of those affected years ago, and those still struggling for acceptance today. The inspired adidas “Pride” Pack drops on June 6 at select Three Stripes retailers.
