Along with sales and prestige alike, adidas‘ “cool factor” pushed the needle to the brink in 2015. The brand strategically and systemically changed the overall scope of their company and product line in 2015. And according to Instagram likes, they had a very big year. Yes, even more so than Nike.
Thanks to a few very detailed infographics from KickPosters, adidas was the most liked sneaker brand on Instagram by a mile. Now, we’re not talking sales or quarterly earnings – that’s another thing entirely. But as we know it to be true, when the tide of social influence shifts in one’s favor, everything else seems to follow.
Adidas Originals secured 78.8 million likes in 2015, almost doubling their closest competitor, Vans. Nike ranks third, tabulating roughly 30 million likes (this of course doesn’t include contributions from Nike Sportswear and Jordan Brand IGs).
What will 2016 hold for adidas? Will their dominance continue in the new year? Will the emergence of more 350s, 750s and the upcoming 550 from Kanye West provide the brand with further separation both socially and fiscally? If 2015 is any indication, it most certainly will.
