Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto continue on their pursuit of intentional craftsmanship and undeterred dedication as they launch the all-new adidas Y-3 ITOGO. This innovative silhouette is a part of Chapter 1 of their Spring/Summer 2023 Collection, which was designed to usher in a new era for the 20-year partnership.
The name of the sneaker, adidas Y-3 ITOGO, is a moniker derived from a carefully considered combination of the Japanese words: “Ito” – “Thread” and “Go” – “Five.”
As a minimal masterpiece, the silhouette is crafted with only five components, each of them being highlighted on the shoe by number: 1. Elastic Straps, 2. Knitted Upper, 3. Boost Midsole, 4. Rubber Cupsole, and 5. Thread.
The experimental footwear was designed as a provocation to rethink the lifecycle of shoes by omitting the use of glue. Each piece of the shoe is assembled using a hand-stitched process, allowing for the silhouette to be fully unraveled if you decide to cut the threads.
