Aleali May’s second Jordan Brand collaboration appears to have inspired a run of suede Jordan 1s. Even before May’s sophomore partnering release drops this weekend, its suede focused material output looks to be making an impact in-house — as did her debut Air Jordan 1 which brought corduroy and chenille to the forefront.
An upcoming Air Jordan 1 “Neutral Grey” highlights a similar suede centering. This pair, however, blends a rather rough patch of weathered suede with premium leather paneling. In contrast, fluorescents brighten the ankle collar and heel that add light to the medium grey and black upper.
What’s even more interesting and revelatory to anything we’ve seen in the past on inline Air Jordan 1s is the “SP 19 Air Jordan 1 High OG” printed at the quarter paneling. “Special Project 2019” would be our guess for its meaning.
Look for this forthcoming Air Jordan 1 “Neutral Grey” this February.
Update 1/22: Jordan Brand’s new take on the Air Jordan 1 is a weathered approach spoken through worn suede and coded branding. There are, too, striking contrasts in the color blocking that venture far from original colorways.
This Air Jordan 1 “Neutral Grey” is set to release on January 24 at select retailers including Feature.
