The OHSU Doernbecher collections have been the highlights of sneaker culture for years. The annual tradition combines the beauty of sneakers as passion and philanthropy collide as patients of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital design masterpieces that document their journey, resilience, and passions.

The Air Jordan x Doernbecher creations have been some of the most memorable from the partnership’s extensive archive. Although last fall’s event was moved due to COVID-19, it was well worth the wait.

The Air Jordan 1 “What The” Doernbecher combines elements from each Jordan x Doernbecher collab since the inception. Given the legacy and current momentum of the Air Jordan 1, the silhouette choice only adds to the shoe’s desirability.

Only 17 pairs of the shoe were made in celebration of the last 17 years of the partnership. One pair was selling for over $2 million via the OHSU Freestyle Livestream on February 25 until it was pulled. Although unconfirmed, suspicious bidding activity behind the pair might’ve led to the decision.

The remaining 16 pairs were initially meant to go up for auction at eBay on February 26, 2021. However, OHSU Doernbecher released a statement that the raffle will be postponed.

Event attendees interested in submitting bids for Virtually Freestyle auction items, including a special Air Jordan 1 “What The” Doernbecher, were required to agree to a robust Terms and Conditions contract. Bidders were also required to register using a valid credit card number, as a part of the authentication process completed by the online auction vendor.

To allow us the necessary time to reaffirm the validity and security of this and future online bidding processes, we have postponed the online auction of the sixteen remaining pairs of the Air Jordan 1 “What The” Doernbecher previously scheduled to begin Friday, Feb. 26.

We will share additional information regarding the status and availability of Virtually Freestyle auction items at a later date.
