A beloved, non-OG Air Jordan 12 is rumored to make a return as the Air Jordan 12 “French Blue” is speculated to arrive in Fall 2025.
The “French Blue” AJ12 holds a special place in sneaker history. Originally released in 2004, the colorway quickly became a fan favorite thanks to the use of the “French Blue” hue, starting away from the typical red, black, and white color scheme that will forever be associated with his Airness.
The white leather upper, paired with the blue accents along the mudguard and outsole, offered a look that stood out in the Air Jordan line as well as on the court in the early 2000s. Subtle hits of red on the tongue and heel tab added a pop of color and made the iteration of the Jordan 12 an instant classic.
In addition to its aesthetics, the “French Blue” AJ12 was embraced and cherished by sneaker culture thanks to the Mamba. During Kobe Bryant’s legendary sneaker free agency in 2003, Bryant wore the “French Blue” AJ12 on the court before signing with Nike.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the influences of the Air Jordan 12 ranged from Japanese rising sun motifs to women’s high heels, offering both performance and style in one package. Decades after its on-court debut, the shoe’s impact continues and the “French Legacy” is one of many shining examples.
The colorway’s 2016 re-release further solidified its status, selling out quickly and proving that its appeal transcends generations. The 2025 version will look to carry the legacy once more.
