The Air Jordan 12 “Taxi” is rumored to return in 2025, making its long-awaited return.

Originally released in 1996, the fan-favorite colorway, which features a stark contrast of black and white, was Michael Jordan’s go-to during the Chicago Bulls’ 1996-97 season, cementing its status in NBA history. Jordan notably laced up the “Taxi” during the Bulls’ championship run, etching the sneaker into the memories of fans and sneakerheads alike.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 12 drew inspiration from 19th-century dress boots and the Japanese Rising Sun flag. The “Taxi” colorway, with its clean white leather upper, black mudguard, and gold accents, perfectly blends luxury with performance —synonymous with the Air Jordan legacy. The colorway’s nickname comes from the yellow-hued accents on the outsole that resemble the iconic New York City taxi cabs, a subtle nod that resonated with sneaker culture.

Over the years, the “Taxi” has seen several retro releases, each time reviving its allure. The most notable came in 2008 as part of the Countdown Pack alongside the “Bred” Air Jordan 11. In 2013, Jordan Brand brought the “Taxi” back as a standalone retro, further fueling demand and nostalgia. In 2021, the brand used the “Taxi” story as the base for the “Royalty” Air Jordan 12 added a more regal look with an extra addition of gold. However, it left fans wanting the OG “Taxi” colorway.

The Air Jordan 12 “Taxi” is rumored to return in 2025 for $210 via SNKRS and select retailers.
