From Foamposite Ones to Son of Gloves, Rip Hamilton wore a lot of heat at UCONN.
While at school in Storrs, the young two-guard set the precedent for all Huskie ‘heads to follow. While many shoes stand out during his stay, it will forever be the Air Jordan 14 White/Red that’s most remembered for Rip.
Worn in the 1999 NCAA Championship Game when the Huskies shocked the world by beating a Duke team that could rival this year’s squad, Hamilton led a UCONN team that also boasted Khalid El-Amin, Jake Voskuhl and Ricky Moore for a truly memorable upset.
Hamilton was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, only to have that topped by being drafted by Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards the following spring. Proving himself to MJ in practice as a pro, Mike would make Rip a member of Jordan Brand.
Rocking many a PE in the pros, it appears JB will celebrate Rip and his college career with an Air Jordan 14 White/Red retro. The news was first reported by @zSneakerHeadz with an IG post from Rip all but confirming said shoe.
If recent retros are any indication, this pair will likely live in the same space as Melo’s “MOP” Air Jordan 9s or insole branded Air Jordan 19s. Official images are unseen at the time.
Take a look at previous pairs of the Air Jordan 14 White/Red in the pics below. Reports have this release pegged for an April 6, 2019 drop date — almost 20 years to the day of when UCONN beat Duke — and two days before this year’s NCAA Championship Game.
Update 3/19: Now confirmed to release on April 6th, a closer look at the Air Jordan 14 White/Red has been revealed courtesy of @theremade.
Update 3/31: Jordan Brand has stated that the Air Jordan 14 White/Red retro release will be a one-to-one reproduction of the OG in regards to both stitching and packaging.
