Since 2004, Nike, Inc.’s collaboration with the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital has become one of the most anticipated annual releases in sneaker culture, with proceeds going directly to the hospital to support its mission. The partnership empowers young patients, offering them the unique opportunity to design their own footwear, showcasing not just their creativity but also their resilience and inspiring stories. Each year, the collection reflects the personal journeys of these children, bringing their visions to life through bold colorways, intricate patterns, and heartfelt details.

One of the most iconic silhouettes in the Doernbecher Freestyle program is the Air Jordan 6 “Doernbecher” colorway from 2009. Designed by 12-year-old Jordan Dark, the Air Jordan 6 Doernbecher features a mix of navy suede and black patent leather, accented with bright red detailing throughout. The shoe’s design is filled with personal touches that reflect Jordan’s interests and his battle with a life-threatening condition. Elements like the No. 1 on the outer heel and phrases like “What time is it?” and “Game time!” highlight his love for sports, adding layers of personality to the design.
