Back in 1992, when Tinker Hatfield designed his famed outdoor basketball shoe, the Nike Air Raid — along with memorable campaign surrounding its “For Outdoor Use Only” theme — the masterful creation was championed by overlaying top straps.
Subsequently, Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 8, in 1993, a shoe also famous for, you guessed it, overlaying straps.
It’s long been widely assumed that the Air Raid directly informed the Air Jordan 8. The two share a similar sentiment and structural framing. For Jordan Brand’s “Nike Icons” holiday 2018 collection, the Air Jordan 8 “Tinker” pulls directly from the Air Raid “Urban Jungle Gym” that we all know and love.
Paying homage to its predecessor with mesh paneling and a color scheme noted on the aforementioned Air Raid that lays perfectly over the mid-cut frame, this striking union is truly an ideal pairing. Look for the Air Jordan 8 “Tinker” this December.
Update 12/20: Set to release this Saturday, December 22, take a closer look at the Air Jordan 8 Tinker “Air Raid” courtesy of Feature.
