Michael Jordan is known for his predilection towards basketball shoes that combine a ball-ready skeleton with a skin akin to formal shoes. His reasoning: who wouldn’t want a basketball shoe with which they may wear a suit? The OG Air Jordan II achieved this sport and suit dichotomy with a full-length air unit and a boast of material luxury from the factories of Italy. Jordan Brand has once again acquiesced to this dualism but in an updated manner. They have draped faux Crocodile skin where faux iguana skin once laid on the OG model. JB has also updated the II with what seems to be a red wax seal. We’ve yet to come across an explanation for this ornament but we will update you as soon as we know. Michael first won the Dunk Contest in the Air Jordan II thereby making this shoe significant in the Jordan saga. Its significance will be honored this year with multiple releases including the White/3M and Carolina Blue/Black make-ups. But, if you feel this lifestyle make-up is a disservice to a shoe of hoops heritage, run away in zigzags. I hear the crocs can’t catch you that way. |
