Jay Z famously rapped “Carolina blue kicks…” on Mya’s “Best of Me” remix back in 2000. The song was the lead single for DJ Clue’s album Backstage: A Hard Knock Life, which released in the same year. Hov even wore a North Carolina basketball jersey in the chart-topping song’s video.
At that point in time, everything baby blue was coming up gold. Jerseys, shirts, shorts, and of course sneakers, North Carolina apparel and footwear reigned heavily during that time, and a renaissance looks to be in the near future.
