This offseason, the NBA will change apparel sponsors from adidas to Nike. This is big news in many, many ways. For fans of jerseys and the Swoosh, we can all but expect a total technical revamp similar to what Nike did with the NFL as well as new design debuts similar to what we saw from the Seahawks, Buccaneers and now the Lions. In addition, one would imagine this summer would be a good time to come up on adidas branded jerseys, shorts and gear as the old product should see solid discounts.
While the Swoosh logo will score more fan wear than official game gear if history tells us anything, it won’t be the only new logo coming into play. SLAM reports that Jordan Brand will be the official outfitter for Mike’s Charlotte Hornets squad. A press release from the Hornets confirms that for the time being this is a solo deal, too:
“The Hornets will be the only team in the NBA wearing Jordan Brand uniforms, and with the agreement taking effect, the Hornets Fan Shop will have even more of the popular Jordan Brand Hornets merchandise than it has had previously.”
The last portion is incredibly exciting for Charlotte-based Jordan fans as Mike’s growing PE collection could turn their arena and fan shop into something similar to what Kobe and Nike did with The Vault at Staples Center. Intriguing to say the least and a good way to sell both tickets and sneakers — especially when you own stake in the team and the brand.
On top of that, Mike just inked his alma mater North Carolina with a football deal that will make them the only squad south of Harbaugh’s boys in blue to rock the Jumpman on the gridiron. Props to Mike on his business savvy and let us know your hopes or expectations of Jordan Brand x Charlotte Hornets gear in the comment section.
