CC Sabathia almost ended our Cleated Kicks feature before it ever got going. Wearing two classic Air Jordans in his first appearance of the year, Sabathia’s “Cool Grey” 11s and PE AJ4s opened this new column with a bang. The following week he debuted another colorway of the 11 and may have outdone himself. While he’s noted for his retro Jordan cleats again this week, it’s Ryan Braun who stole the show with his Nike?Air Swingman Remix cleat. While that shoe is not a new silhouette, its significance cannot be overlooked.
Like every player in baseball on Jackie Robinson Day, Ryan Braun wore Jackie’s number 42, while his cleats paid tribute to the breaking of the color barrier in baseball. Almost all white with only minimal hits of royal blue (an ode to the Robinson’s Dodgers uniforms), this pair is a follow-up to the version that players wore last year. No information has released about this colorway also making it to retail just yet, so for now you’ll have to just enjoy the pictures and the tribute to one of the most deserving athletes ever.
