Community Collections revisits the Lone Star State to feature the stash of a future sneaker designer. Davon Grant hopes to make his own SKUs someday, but his current collection is already deep and unpredictable, covering the entire spectrum with a wide array of models from Nike, adidas, ASICS, New Balance, Vans, and of course Jordan Brand. Getting into the culture through the court, Grant has now turned his attention towards fashion and individuality, with a preference for bright colors and unique style codes.

Collection Summary

“My love for shoes came at a young age. I loved having new basketball shoes to play in. I remember every basketball season I would ask my parents to get me some new shoes. I wouldn’t always get them, but when I did I felt like the happiest kid in the world. I was a HUGE Iverson and Kobe fan, so when it came to choosing shoes, it always was a shoe that was endorsed by them. Born in 1991, I didn’t get a chance to see Jordan play, so I didn’t get into Air Jordans until I reached high school. I loved to match. My dream was to have a pair of shoes to match every outfit, and that was when I jokingly told my mother “one day I will have more shoes than you.” I hadn’t known much about shoes but that if I thought they looked good, I wanted them. I remember my freshmen year of high school like it was yesterday. 2005-2006, everyone had Jordans. I had no knowledge about Js, but I really liked them. I bought a pair of replica “Metallic” 5’s and had no idea. I went to school and was made fun of and laughed at for wearing a fake pair of Jordans. I was so embarrassed, so that night I told myself that if I was going to get into shoes that I needed to become knowledgeable about shoes, and that was where my passion started. I would look up shoes then try to name every pair I saw walking around school until I was able to name shoes instantly. I started out collecting only Jordans, but once I realized how vast the sneaker world was I fell in love with everything that was “different”. Different colors, different shoe brands, different shoe styles. I’ve come to appreciate shoes of all forms and my love for shoes is the reason why I am going to school to become a shoe designer. My older cousin Nick told me: ‘If you love what you do, you’ll never hate going to work’. That quote will forever stick with me.”
