Sneaker retail is a tough business. Fast changing trends, required buy ins for desired allocations and constant competition from all angles all contribute to said climate. Today, Crooked Tongues, a highly respected London-based online sneaker store and magazine closed its doors. The site was well known for its sharp photography, witty and educational editorial and wide range of product.
Over the years, Crooked Tongues has made its mark on the retail side via classic product and creative collaborations. Recent releases like the Brazilian keeper-inspired Insta Pump Fury collabo exemplified the outlet’s knack for nostalgia and lack for following the norm. On the editorial side, the site offered some of the most informative and voice-filled sneaker write-ups, do much in part to CT’s Gary Warnett who many readers and writers (this author included) consider to be the best writer in the footwear industry.
While this move appears to have been made on bigger business notions rather than quality of content or service, the site’s going away letter to its loyal followers does state they’re “closing the store for the time being,” perhaps offering a glimmer of hope that they will someday re-open. In either event, thanks for the shoes, news, laughs and knowledge, Crooked Tongues.
