The NBA season is still relatively young but for Damian Lillard one this is already quite clear. The adidas Dame 4 is his favorite model from his signature sneaker line.

“They feel great. It’s my best shoe,” Lillard said after a recent Blazers practice. “The comfort level is different than the other ones. I had my favorites from past [models] but this one is the best.”

The Dame 4’s comfort that Lillard refers to, is due to the full-length BOUNCE cushioning system in the midsole. Also providing Lillard the comfort that he is so thrilled with is a ventilated mesh upper, which allows for airflow and increases breathability. Supportive lace cables ensure a secure and comfortable fit as well.

“The first time I wore these against Indiana, they were right out of the box and I was able to play in ’em,” Lillard said, while pointing to an unreleased grey colorway he was wearing. “That’s a big deal for me. I’m more comfortable with these than any of the other ones.”

Lillard isn’t the only player in the league who is a fan of the Dame 4. Several players like Clippers guard Austin Rivers hoop in the Dame 4 and Lillard appreciates it when he sees others liking his shoe. Lillard however, doesn’t think other players wearing the Dame 4 gives him a mental edge over them. It is a decision though, that Lillard will never do himself.

In fact, before he got his signature line, Lillard made sure he made sure to never wear Derrick Rose’s shoes against him.

“When I was a rookie and even my second year, every time we played the Bulls, I had to [know] if D. Rose was playing or not,” Lillard said. “Because I was playing in his shoes and I wasn’t going to play in his shoes against him.”

Besides for the comfort factor, Lillard also expressed a love for the different colorways of the Dame 4. And one colorway Lillard is hoping to play in this season, is a custom iteration created for his appearance on Lace Up: The Ultimate Sneaker Challenge, the Youtube Red sneaker-themed competition show that took place at PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy in Portland.

“[It was cool] to be around a group that had to learn so much about me to come up with different colorways,” Lillard said about his experience on the show. “They took the time to learn stuff about me. They found some hidden stuff in my history.”
