Coming into the 2015 NBA Draft, former Ohio State Buckeye D’Angelo Russell was presumed to be the biggest draw from sneaker brands to sign as an endorser. Then, following his number two overall selection by the Los Angeles Lakers, and now Summer League competition, he is still very much believed to be so.
Today, Russell announced that he signed with Nike, a choice many saw coming a mile away. Russell wore Nike Basketball heat all throughout high school at Montverde Academy, during his short stint at Ohio State, and in the infant stages of his current rookie season in the Association.
Many reports indicated there was a bidding war between Nike and adidas for his services. And even if that is in fact true, Nike got the better of that battle as confirmed today. Stay tuned for more on this story and to see what Swoosh heat Russell continues to pull out in Summer League play and when the 2015-16 release season starts in a few months.
