Times and trends change, but classics remain staples in style. In the case for Adidas and David Z, the Superstar was the focus of transformation as appetites for cleaner lines and an attention to quality becomes more important for today’s consumer.
The result of the two sides efforts is the “Black Tie Project” which was headed up by resident buyer and designer Ronnie Fieg. “The main idea behind the Black Tie Project was to design a Superstar that looks like a shoe that can be worn with a suit but can still be worn with your everyday fashions.” Fieg also went on to say, “I wanted something classy, yet fresh. I guess it’s like James Bond meets Run DMC.” Material interests highlight the execution of the concept with premium pearlarized leathers, patent leather and tone on tone pinstripes, but the retooling of the midsole and toe separate this shoe from its historic predecessors. The shoe commonly referred to as the “shell-toe” underwent a transformation with the traditionally rubber shell was replaced with premium embroidered leather. To celebrate the shoe’s release, Daivd Z and Adidas will host a Black Tie gala on Wednesday, November 26th at Goldbar where the men will be given a black Adidas neck tie to replace their own when entering. The 400 pair worldwide exclusive will release on Black Friday, November 28th for $100. A limited run will be released online exclusively at DavidZ.com and will be available in store at the David Z flagship store, Shoe Gallery (Miami) and Major DC (Washington DC). |
