International Party DJ and street photographer?M.A.F.I.A. is well known for her affinity for sneakers. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, M.A.F.I.A.’s style is heavily influenced by the hip hop and street cultures, but the Aussie way of life also plays a role in her fashion decisions. Longevity breeds change, especially in terms of style. When describing her style and what goes into a daily outfit, M.A.F.I.A. says:
“My style has evolved so much over the years before settling on a more refined look that focuses on comfort without compromising pizzazz. As a traveling DJ, it?s a must that I have a good rotation of proddy that translates from airports to the clubs. I?m inspired heavily by Japan and its culture, but I also make it a point to include as many local brands into my daily get up as possible.
My look for this season is a combination of high end branding and street wear madness. It?s a must to always have a jacket or scarf on hand in Melbourne. The weather is notorious for giving you four seasons in one day. Even though we are in the throes of summer, our days will range from cold and windy to scorching hot, so you have to be prepared.”
For the first installment of Decked Out Females, we asked M.A.F.I.A. to breakdown what one of her multi-brand, street wear/high fashion hybrid outfits would consist of. She presented us with the following:
Supreme x Comme Des Garcons Tee“The Supreme x Comme Des Garcons tee is a contender for first place on the t-shirt mantel. I?ve whittled my tee collection down to a respectable 150 from around 700, but this bad boy is definitely one I will never part with. I?ve rocked it plenty this year, as it can generally pass for a casual or dressed up look. This is a great compromise for someone who doesn’t really enjoy formal wear too much.”
Ksubi Full Eye Denim Vest
“Ksubi has been killing it in Oz (nickname for Australia) and abroad, especially with their denim. I?m a big fan of denim vests, especially with hoods, and this Full Eye Vest has a dope face warmer strap in case you leave your scarf at home. I rock it most days over a tee or shirt and bow tie for the classier corporate DJ events.”
Perks and Mini Duplo Pant“Perks And Mini, aka P.A.M., is an underground Australian brand doing big things with their avant-garde designs and crazy take on streetwear fashion. Their Duplo Pants are so ill with the drop crotch waist and elastic cuffed ankles. They?re perfect for showing off the heat on your feet. I’ve copped them in three colors to mix and match with most of my outfits. They?re perfect for travel, too!”
Visvim FBT“After a five year stint working at Sneaker Freaker Magazine (before retiring to be a full-time DJ), it?s safe to say I?ve accumulated a ridiculous amount of kicks. Of course, like most sneaker heads I wear but a small rotation. Mostly Air Jordan IVs, which are my all time favorite silhouette, but Visvim?s FBT kicks are a very close 2nd with their all-over buttery suede goodness and suave steez.”
