Taylor Howell is a woman who does her own thing. In fact, Howell does what she wants exactly how she wants. The young starlet of MTV’s Washington Heights made a name for herself on the show through her eccentric style. After an impressive and surprising, My 5 sneaker rotation, and as the release of her clothing ling draws near, Nice Kicks asked Taylor to describe her style.
“My style generally isn’t ‘loud,’ and I’m not too big on crazy prints or things that are too tight. Mostly everything I own is either a primary color or white or grey. Instead of intricate pieces, I like more basic cuts, which to me are bold. I really like mixing materials. I don’t like my outfits to have more than 3 colors, and I keep accessories to a minimum. I keep everything very simple. I believe that if an outfit is balanced and fits properly, anything can be pulled off. Everything can be worn a million ways. I’d rather have a plain outfit and crazy accessories.”
In the latest installment of Decked Out Females, we discover how Taylor applies her style philosophy, which is, “if you build a wardrobe off of basic classic pieces, nothing will ever go out of style.”
American Apparel Chemise“I think as a female, dresses and skirts are essential for warmer weather. They get a bad rep, but they’re comfortable as hell. I went to catholic school so I got used to wearing skirts everyday, and I love the red color of the dress. It’s basic, yet a different shape.”
Silence & Noise Moto Jacket“I throw a jacket on with almost anything.”
Air Jordan 12 White/Varsity Red“(Air Jordan) 12s are always necessary.”
Back Necklace“A back necklace is probably the only trend I’ll admit to following lately. My outfits are always basic. Jewelry is the only real place I’ll follow trends. Lately, there’s been more out of the ordinary jewelry for girls, like belly chains and midi rings, and I think it’s amazing. I made this from other necklaces.”
