East Anchorage High School has proven to be the premier high school basketball team in Alaska. Even more meaningful than their recent state title, the team has stood for something much larger than basketball.

Throughout their season, players of the East Anchorage team have warmed up with shirts promoting the Black Lives Matter cause en route to a perfect undefeated season. However, come their first playoff game, a claim was filed against their team for promoting a “political statement.” Fortunately, the Alaska Sports Activities Association ruled in favor of the team allowing them to continue wearing their selected attire.

When Alaska native and CEO of 907 Agency David Bullock caught wind of this story, he reached out to Puma. Quick to understand the importance of community and equality, the large sportswear brand gifted each player and their coach with their own pair of RS-Dreamers. Wearing J. Cole’s signature sneaker, the team then went on to win the Alaska 4A State Championship.

“The efforts to silence this team’s message of equality weren’t successful and ultimately amplified their voices,” Bullock said. “Not only did this group of young men stick to their beliefs, but they completed a perfect season and became Alaska state champions.”
