Earlier this year, rumors surfaced that eBay and Nike would be bringing back their iconic SB Dunk Low.

In 2003, eBay and Nike SB teamed up for a one-of-a-kind SB Dunk Low that benefitted charity. The auction for the shoe reached a $30,000 ceiling with the lucky winner getting a pair in their size.

Proceeds of the auction benefitted the Tim Brauch Foundation along with skate parks in the Portland, Or., area. But that’s just where the mythical aspect of the shoe begins. Those involved with the charity dunk were so dedicated to the shoe’s scarcity that the original sample that was seen at the auction was cut into sectioned pieces — ensuring the shoe’s lure.

The rumors were quickly followed by leaked images that brought the story, the legacy of Sandy Bodecker — the godfather of Nike SB — and its rare story full circle. Nearly 20 years after the charity Dunk, Nike and eBay are teaming up once more with a one-of-a-kind iteration of the 2022 eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low.

From December 7 to December 14, eBay will be hosting a charity auction of 10 special edition collector’s boxes that includes the all-new SB Dunk Low, a re-made “charity” Dunk, and a custom saw in eBay’s colors which tie the story and the significance back to its origins. All proceeds will support the Bodecker Foundation in honor of Sandy Bodecker.

Additionally, the Skate ‘Em Out Store in Portland, Ore., will stock some of the most popular styles of Nike SB Dunks over the past two decades, reflecting eBay’s wide selection of OG pairs, rare 1-of-1s, and new releases. The store will be open on Dec. 9 and 10 from 11 a.m. – 6 pm.

“For us, it’s important because we want to honor Sandy and how important he was,” said  Garry Thaniel, eBay’s GM of Sneakers. “I really do believe without Sandy you don’t have the iconic nature of what the eBay charity Dunk was when it was released in the mid-2000s.”

The SB Dunk is more than just a collaboration for Thaniel and the eBay team. It’s an opportunity to continue Bodecker’s legacy and ensure the next generation of sneakerheads and skaters continue to have the foundation which Bodecker laid.

“It’s not just capturing a retail moment it’s truly wanting to create and pay homage and the man,” Thaniel said. “The foundation’s mission is to empower creative youth to imagine and achieve their artistic, educational, and professional dreams. It aligns with what we’re trying to do. So much of what we’re trying to do is to empower the next level of creatives to express themselves through sneaker culture and make sure we’re giving back to the community that supports us.”

The auction is live at eBay.com.
