words // Nick DePaula:
Throughout the design process, footwear designers bounce around between silhouettes, colors and materials before landing on what becomes the final version of a sneaker that’ll be released to the public.
As we see in this exclusive first look, Tinker Hatfield not only designed the iconic Grape version of the Air Jordan V, but he also sampled what has been dubbed the “Pre-Grape” variation, an away based alternate.
The original concept is finally making its way to retail this weekend on Saturday, May 2nd, not as a “Hornets” inspired colorway, but rather a Retro of an original sample that never made the final cut in 1990.
Check out an original sample of the “Pre-Grape” V below, alongside the Retro launching this weekend.
